Sometimes you aren’t certain the gift you’re giving is the right gift. So, what can you do? Tuck the gift receipt into the package along with a short message. A friend of mine wrote a little poem she puts into “wearable presents” that soften the size/color that may not work dilemma. You can use it (or write your own) to create lovely little tags.
For the Gift That Might Not Quite Be Right(by my friend Terri)
“I tried to find the perfect gift, though you may not agree;
If you don’t love the color or style, return it please, for me.
Replace it for one that’s pleasing, one you will enjoy
A gift that’s used is better far than one that’s unemployed!”
It is the thought that counts, but including a message like this takes the pressure off the receiver – they will know immediately your feelings won’t be hurt if they choose something else – which may turn out to be the best part of the gift.
