In a few days, Christmas will be here! Remember when you were little and those words gave you that butterfly feeling in your tummy? Maybe today they give you the urge to reach for an antacid. Here are a few more ideas that might bring the butterflies back.
FOR THE DO IT YOURSELFERS IN YOUR LIFE:
A wardrobe repair kit: double stick fashion tape, lint roller, deodorant remover sponge, safety pins, … check out the notions dept. of a fabric store and see what else you can add. You can “wrap” this in a lovely cosmetic bag to add a bit of simple style to the gift. Add a bit of ribbon and this gift is ready to give. This is an excellent gift for people who travel. It’s easy to pack, and they appreciate your practical gift on their trips. Teachers, office workers, and your hair stylist friend can all take them to work and have that “quick wardrobe fix” nearby because of your thoughtfulness.
Closet upgrade kit: Maybe you know your friend is frustrated with her closet. You can help without saying a word! A gift basket (you could use a clothes basket) and fill it with new hangers, a belt holder, a tie storage system, clear plastic shoe boxes, and a hanging jewelry bag. (You can sometimes find most of these items in one aisle of your favorite Target or Shopko. It’s possible the local dollar store would have them too.)
Later, you could give them a copy of Simply Closets for their birthday. You can order it from the books and products page on this site or at Amazon by clicking HERE.
HELP THE GIRL GIFTS
Do you have someone on your list who has a lovely blouse, sweater, or jacket, but doesn’t seem to have the right accessories to energize that outfit? If you don’t want to say anything, but want to help her shine, why not give her a “cluster” gift? Picking up 3 items will not only extend her wardrobe, it will make her feel beautiful.
Maybe you know someone who looks lovely in the “romantic style” but tends to wear the same tweed blazer and turtleneck. By giving her a pearl chain necklace, a long ivory embroidered scarf, and a lace covered barrette, she can still be comfortable in her current outfit, with a breath of fresh style.
For the natural person on your list, an animal print purse, feather earrings and a rustic wide leather belt will take her wardrobe from earthy to exotic in a way she might love. This also works well for the woman who prefers a classic wardrobe with a little flair. With a gift like this her little black dress or pantsuit goes from well-worn to wow in a few seconds.
I hope you’ve enjoyed this brief series. I’d enjoy hearing what ideas you have for gift giving all year long. Leave a comment here or email me at jill@www.jillswanson.com I look forward to hearing from you.
