Feathers – Designers are using feathers more and more often. The magazines show them in skirts, tops, and dresses. Feathers have a lot of strikes against them; they are difficult to keep clean, may cause allergic reactions, and can scratch or irritate the skin. Natural movement can damage them and if they get pulled, can damage the article of clothing.
Snazzy Suggestion: If you like feathers, there are some lovely options: jewelry designers are using them in brooches and earrings. For an event that calls for some extra pizzazz, they can be added to your hair. You might be able to fashion a feather arrangement into a scarf pin, but be sure you have concealed the sharp ends or your scarf will be damaged. A friend recently saw a lovely feather “corsage” worn on the jacket lapel of a business woman. The look was striking. (Note: the feather ends were dipped in some kind of clear coating to keep her jacket safe.)
