On the Run
Exercise related walks, a day filled with errands, keeping up with the kids
Conventional Style: Comfortable flats, tennis shoes
New Step: The new materials used are definitely an upgrade, the styles are attractive, and designers are more aware of both comfort and foot health than ever before.
But. . .you have to choose the shoes that fit your feet and lifestyle.
For summer, flip-flops are not only the most in-style footwear, most women find them comfortable. However, some women prefer sandals – with a strap at the heel.
Flats are in and there are dozens of styles to choose from that range from cute to business-practical. When walking through a busy airport in your business/casual clothing, flats are a great option. They allow you the balance needed to walk fast and make airport check-ins a breeze.
For exercise, be especially picky. Your stride will be longer and more determined. The designers know this and have provided you with options for walkers, runners, biking, hiking, and for marathon runners. They have combined the science of the foot, impact from the sport, and style. However, they each have a slightly different formula.
Be sure your on the road options are right for you: wear them in the store for awhile. Walk up and down the aisles at the speed you would if wearing them in the “real world.”
Other Foot Care Suggestions:
- Tuck a new package of gel pads in your purse, brief case, or carry-on luggage.
- Keeping blister care topical cream and moleskin pads in your cosmetic bag for long distance shopping trips, unexpected walks, and while breaking in new shoes means you are prepared as soon as your foot alerts you to a problem.
- If you know you’re going to be on your feet for a long stretch and you’re not at home, a golf ball (see this post) and a small bottle of lotion takes up a little space in your suitcase, but could provide you with a lot of relief.
