Want to update your wardrobe without spending a dime? Host a swap party! If you love a good deal it doesn’t get better than this idea – it’s fun, and it’s free. Whether you gather with a small group of friends or make it a community or church event, this new twist on shopping is a fabulous way to refresh your look and recycle your accessories and clothes. Here are some easy steps to get you started:
PLAYERS: 3 or more people
PREGAME PREP: Determine what items you want: Accessories? Clothing? Beauty products? Other?
GAME PIECES:
- Two or more items per person. Each item must be in good condition, clean, and still fashionable (may include clothes, accessories and unopened beauty products)
- Tokens, tickets, or play money
- Numbers to draw from a hat (recommended for larger groups)
SET UP: You will need a couple of mirrors, and a “store” area where items can be displayed.
RULES: No critiquing.
HOW TO PLAY THE GAME:
Set up one room as the shopping area, and allow space to display the goods like a retail fashion store. As guests arrive collect their ‘merchandise’ and give a token or ticket for each item donated. Take turns shopping and let everyone rotate through again after each has had a first pick.
WINNER: Everyone. The game is over when items are gone or you swap till you drop. Remaining items may be donated to a local women’s shelter or mission.
If you decide to do one, please let me know how it goes for you, I’d love to hear your story.
When you’ve done this do people try on? How do you keep it moving when you pick numbers. Sounds fun! Trying to figure out the logistics.
Yes if you are doing a “clothing” swap, have it near a bathroom and/or bedroom so that people can slip in and try things on. Limit the number of items per try on (just like in the stores) this of course will depend on how many people you have and how much “merchandise” you are working with. Also be sure to have several mirrors in the actual shopping area area, most things people bring can be tried on without changing clothe.
Keep it moving by calling out 3 numbers at a time to get things rolling and once they’ve gotten a few minutes in of shopping in, then call 3 more numbers and let the next group in. Eventually, when everyone is in, it will get more chaotic, but it all adds to the fun!
I sign up for a bus trip last year to Minneapolis, but it was cancelled due to COVID. I missed an opportunity. I have never been to any of your seminars. I was going with JaNeal Smith. I think you know her or her daughter Lynn.
Kathleen, I’m so sorry it didn’t work out, I’ve tried to reschedule with Community Education, but I have a feeling it won’t happen now until 2022 🙁 But I’m so glad you connected with me here! I have a new Bible study you might like that just came out, it’s called 30 Day Makeover Inside and Out – it balances inner and outer beauty to motivate you to moving day by day to a better you — inside and out!
