I received a phone call from a gal saying “People are asking me if I’m not feeling well, I don’t get it, I feel great, or at least I did, now I just feel so old! Please help!”
I was a little surprised since she had been in for a color consultation a couple of years ago, and she looked fabulous at 45. As I listened to her, I figured it probably wasn’t an age concern or a clothing color issue.
I invited her come in to my office and asked her to bring her makeup.
Her foundation looked good, mascara and eye makeup were fine, but when I got to the lip and cheek color I questioned her selections.
“The girl selling the makeup said I should go for a natural look and recommended the “Rich Almond” lip color and the “Tawny Desert” blush.”
I encouraged her to save the neutral tones for her eye shadow, and to add a rose tint to her cheeks and lips.
When we are young there is a natural pink/red tone to our lip and cheek color and the older we get the more our color fades. Using beiges and browns can make us look like we’ve just been embalmed!
I didn’t recommend a specific brand, but suggested she purchase a lip balm with a hint of raspberry in it and a rosy liquid check color. These products give a natural, younger appearance and a quiet inner confidence – simply and beautifully.
